Energy for Health: How are teeth and micronutrients linked as health factors?

Guest contribution by Dr. Helge Knüppel: energyforhealth.de

The world of dentistry is much more than just drilling and filling teeth. A special discipline within this field, biological dentistry, takes a holistic perspective by considering the entire body and its interactions with the oral cavity.

We recently introduced you to Dr. Helge Knüppel and his wonderful lecture on the guiding star of life. Today, we would like to highlight the connection between biological dentistry and micronutrient therapy, as Dr. Knüppel has been studying for a master’s degree in micronutrient therapy and regulatory medicine under our scientific director, Prof. Dr. Elmar Wienecke, for several months now.

What is biological dentistry?

Biological dentistry goes beyond traditional dentistry by not only treating symptoms, but also searching for the causes of dental and oral problems. This approach recognizes that problems in the oral cavity can have far-reaching effects on the entire body. For example, chronic and systemic diseases are often associated with conditions in the mouth, such as silent inflammation or the presence of toxic materials.

The Dental IQ Bio-Health Concept, based on holistic biological dentistry, offers promising approaches to improving the health of chronically ill patients. This concept shows measurable success in rejuvenating biological age by, among other things, improving telomere length and mitochondrial activity in cells, which contributes to increased self-healing and self-regulation of the body. By distinguishing between chronological and biological age, this concept emphasizes that aging should not be accepted as an inevitable fact, but that by influencing biological age, a high quality of life can be maintained even at an advanced chronological age.

Why is biological dentistry important?

Our teeth and mouth are not isolated from the rest of our body. Problems in the jaw area can have far-reaching consequences, from impairing our general health to contributing to the development of chronic diseases. Biological dentistry uses biocompatible materials and therapies to improve oral health while promoting the well-being of the entire body.

The unique position of the teeth and jawbone in the human body has far-reaching health implications. Teeth are directly connected to the brain via the trigeminal nerve, which gives them a critical role in the transmission of toxins and heavy metals to the brain, especially when amalgam fillings are used. This connection can bypass the blood-brain barrier, potentially transporting harmful substances directly to the brain. In addition, the jawbone is characterized by high metabolic activity, which means that pathogens or toxins in the jaw can quickly spread throughout the body, contributing to a variety of health problems.

The interaction between teeth and the meridian system in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) underscores the importance of a holistic approach to dentistry. Disturbances in the meridians caused by dental problems can have far-reaching effects on the entire body. This perspective emphasizes the need for comprehensive anamnesis and diagnostics in biological dentistry in order to identify and treat the underlying causes of chronic diseases.

The problem of root canal treatment and dead teeth in the oral cavity

In conventional dentistry, root canal treatment is considered the standard procedure for saving a diseased tooth by removing the inflamed or dead nerve tissue and sealing the tooth with filling materials. Although this keeps the tooth functional, it effectively becomes a dead organ in the body. This contrasts with other medical practices, which typically remove dead organs, a point that is particularly criticized by proponents of holistic biological dentistry.

Holistic biological dentistry points out that a root-treated tooth, although outwardly intact, can be a breeding ground for bacteria hidden in the numerous dentinal tubules. These bacteria can produce toxic substances that contribute to systemic health problems, including heart disease, strokes, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Since these processes are often painless, they frequently go unnoticed, increasing the risk of undetected ongoing damage to the body. The message is clear: a painless dead tooth can still pose a significant health risk, which is why tooth preservation should not be pursued at any cost.

The role of micronutrient therapy

An interesting aspect of biological dentistry is its connection to micronutrient therapy. This form of therapy is based on the assumption that a deficiency in certain nutrients can lead to various health problems, including those affecting the oral cavity. Optimizing the nutrient balance can not only improve oral health, but also support general healing processes in the body.

Targeted micronutrient therapy in the context of biological dentistry emphasizes specific micronutrients such as amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D3, magnesium, and vitamin C, which are essential for bone and tooth metabolism. These micronutrients play a crucial role in wound healing, detoxification, immune system support, and strengthening bones and teeth.

Amino acids are essential for cell regeneration and metabolism, while omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and improve cell membrane function. Vitamin D3 and magnesium contribute to bone and dental health by supporting calcium absorption and incorporation and are involved in numerous enzymatic processes. Vitamin C, as an antioxidant, promotes healthy teeth and gums by supporting odontoblasts and osteoblasts and plays an important role in detoxification and energy supply. These examples underscore the need for a holistic view of nutrient intake and its effects on the entire organism, especially in the field of dentistry.

How does that work in practice?

In the practice of biological dentistry, this means that a comprehensive diagnosis is first made that goes beyond the usual dental examination. For example, intraerythrocyte micronutrient analysis is performed and, based on this, intestinal cleansing is carried out to improve overall health and promote optimal healing and regeneration before dental procedures are performed.

Delve deeper into the subject matter

Of course, we could only scratch the surface of biological dentistry here, but hopefully we have shown that the method offers a comprehensive approach to treating dental and oral problems by looking at the whole person rather than just the limited area of the mouth.

The integration of micronutrient therapy into this holistic approach promotes not only oral health, but also general health and well-being.

With his Dental IQ method, Dr. Knüppel is striving for a paradigm shift in dentistry, in which patients emerge with a stronger immune system and a more vital organism overall, making them more resilient and capable of regeneration and achieving a significant extension of their health span.
